About Islam
Islam (Arabic: اَلْإِسْلَامُ) is an Arabic word meaning "submission". The sovereignty of God (Allah) is a central theme in the Islamic faith. The monotheistic belief system originated in the seventh century through the teachings of Muhammad (SAW). Muslims believe that Muhammad was the last of all religious prophets (beginning with Abraham) and that the Quran was revealed by Allah.
According to Islamic theology, Islam is the original, complete, and universal version of a fundamental faith that was revealed many times before through prophets including Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus.
Today followers of Islam constitute the second largest religious group in the world. The Muslim population is estimated at 1.8 billion or more than 24% of the world's population. Islam is the official religion in 26 countries in Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa and the Middle East.
Islam is growing faster than any other religion in the world. To understand this fact, see the report of the research done by Pew Research Center given below.
Saudi Arabia Pillar Inscription 'Shahda'
The Arabic script on the flag of Saudi Arabia is the Islamic creed, known as the Shahada; Its translation is:
"There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger."
Shahada is the first of the 5 pillars of Islam.
The two major branches of Islam today are Sunni and Shia. The two sects split from each other soon after the death of the Prophet Muhammad over a religious-political leadership dispute regarding the rightful descendent of Muhammad.
Sunni Muslim Community
Most of the world's Muslims are Sunni; Its followers range from 87% to 90% of the global Muslim population. Sunnis consider the first four caliphs to be the legitimate successors of Muhammad. The majority of Muslims in Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Jordan, Gaza and West Bank Saudi Arabia are Sunni. They consider themselves to be traditional (original) followers of the Islamic faith.
Shia Muslim Community
Followers of Shia religion reject the first 3 Sunni Caliphs and consider the fourth Caliph Ali as the first true successor of Muhammad. Most Shia Muslims live in Iran, southern Iraq, Lebanon, Bahrain, Azerbaijan, and Yemen. There are large Shia communities in Afghanistan, India, Kuwait, Pakistan, Qatar, Syria, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Sufi
Sufism is an Islamic ascetic-mystical tradition, an esoteric dimension of the Islamic faith. Sufism has existed since the early days of Islam and is found in almost all Islamic countries. There are many Sufi orders that focus on various forms of devotional dhikr (ذِكْر, dhikr Allah: remembrance of Allah). Dedication may be expressed in a ceremony in which music, body movements and chants induce a state of ecstasy in the disciples.
islamic core country
Islam originated in the Arabian Peninsula in the first quarter of the seventh century. From there the faith spread all over the world.
