Birbal dominated the court of Emperor Akbar. Birbal's cleverness and understanding had made him special to the emperor. Because of this, many people in the court were jealous of Birbal. Emperor Akbar's brother-in-law was also among these people. Brother-in-law did not leave any chance to humiliate Birbal, but every time he had to face the consequences. Being the brother of the Begum, even the emperor did not say anything to him.

One day, in the absence of Birbal, the brother-in-law demanded the post of Diwan from Emperor Akbar. The king thought of taking the brother-in-law's test. He told the brother-in-law, “Today I heard the sound of kittens behind the palace early in the morning. It seems that a cat has given birth to babies, go and see whether this is true or not.

The brother-in-law quickly went behind the palace and came back and said, "Your words are true, a cat has given birth behind the palace."

The king said, "Well, just tell me, how many children has the cat given birth to?" The brother-in-law said in reply, "I do not know this, I will come soon after finding out, Maharaj."

Having said this, he again went behind the palace and came back and said, "Your Majesty, the cat has become the mother of five children."

Emperor Akbar asked, "Well, just tell me how many of those five children are females and how many are males?" The brother-in-law said in reply, “I have not seen this at all, I will come after seeing it now.” Having said this, he again goes behind the palace and after a while comes and says, "Your Majesty, out of five children of the cat, three are male and two are female."

Emperor Akbar again asked his brother-in-law a question, “What color are the male kittens? In response to the question, the brother-in-law said, "I will come after seeing now." Emperor Akbar said, "Let it be, sit down."

By this time Birbal had reached the Raj Darbar. The king said to Birbal, “Birbal, the cat has given birth to babies behind the palace, just see if this is true. Birbal said, "I will come after seeing now, Maharaj." Saying this he went to see behind the palace.

Returning back, Birbal told Emperor Akbar, "Your Majesty, the cat has given birth to babies."

The king asked Birbal, "How many children has the cat given birth to?" Birbal immediately replied, "Your Highness, of five children."

The king asked again, "How many of the kittens are female and how many are male?" Birbal immediately replied, "Your Majesty, three males and two females."

Emperor Akbar once again asked Birbal, "What color are the male kittens?" Birbal immediately replied, "Your Majesty, the color of two male children is black and one is almond."

Now Maharaj looked at his brother-in-law sitting nearby and asked, "What do you have to say about this?" Brother-in-law sat with his head bowed in shame and could not say anything.
