Meaning
The saying 'God helps those who help themselves' means that one is able to get out of one's own difficulties. even fate, luck, or so-called divine things; Visible only to those people who are constantly asserting themselves. For those who don't even make an effort, but sit and wait for God to solve their problems; God never comes to their aid in any form and thus their problems only get bigger.

Origin
The approximate general meaning of this proverb is documented in several ancient Greek works of proverbs. Sophocles, an ancient Greek tragedian, wrote in his play Philoxetes (c. 409 BC) – 'No good time comes, and even heaven helps those who will not act.' It means that for those people who just sit and relax without any purpose, no one from heaven or even God comes to help them. This is not exactly the same as the saying 'God helps those who help themselves', but it conveys almost the same meaning.
There is another similar phrase attributed to the Roma poet Publius Ovidius Naso, who wrote "God himself helps those who show courage"; This is another phrase with a similar meaning to the proverb.
English political theorist Algernon Sidney was the first to say that God helps those who help themselves. Later on, the saying has been used by many politicians and other people around the world.

Short Story
A wealthy merchant had two sons named Dhyanchand and Karamchand. Dhyan Chand was always sitting in meditation, doing nothing, meditating and trying to connect with the Almighty; What he had thought Whereas on the other hand, Karamchand believed in Karma and used to earn his livelihood by working hard.
Once the village was hit by a drought and the water became so scarce that every drop became precious and people stopped even giving water to the guests. Karamchand due to his temperament refused to accept the situation and started thinking of ways to somehow get water to the village. On the other hand Dhyan Chand started spending more time in worshiping God, praying for rain than ever before.
Karamchand gathered many hardworking men like him and started digging for a well at a suitable place. It took months but finally, they got success and got the water out of the well. He was very happy and thanked God for his success.
When Dhyanchand heard this news, he was happy but at the same time he was confused. Having immense faith in the Almighty, he was wondering why the Lord did not respond to his requests for rain. Dhyanchand's question was answered by his businessman father, who told him – Son, this is a very important lesson and you should always remember that 'God helps those who help themselves'. Karamchand was determined to help him and the village; So, the Lord helped him by taking out water from the well. On the other hand, you were doing nothing but praying, so God didn't respond.
Short Story
Once upon a time there lived a poor fisherman who could never catch a lot of fish. While others were getting plenty of fish, this man was barely able to feed his family. He was tired of his failure and misfortune and was getting sick.
But he did not know, or perhaps ignored, that other fishermen used to go out to sea during high tide and stay till the tide receded again. This fisherman had no such strategy and used to start his journey only during low tide as it was less risky and sail was also easier. However, his wife told him one day that if he wanted to become rich, he would have to take risks like others do. He said that – unless we take risks and go for sail when the tide is high; We will get nothing!! He also backed his claim with the proverb – 'God helps those who help themselves'.
Fortunately, the fisherman understood his wife's advice and set sail with other fishermen during high tide. It was risky, but God constantly helped him and the others and rewarded them all with good and plentiful fish. The fisherman returned to his family, happier than ever, and thanked his wife for her sensible advice.
