Meaning
The saying 'prevention is better than cure' means that it is better to prevent what should not happen before it should rather than to take necessary measures after it has happened. It teaches us to predict the arrival of a situation which would be unwanted and undesirable, and take necessary efforts to prevent this occurrence.

Origin
The phrase 'prevention is better than cure' became popular around the 17th century; Although during the 13th century a phrase with a similar meaning was well known and in use – 'It is better and more useful to deal with a problem in time than to seek a remedy after the damage is done.'
Apart from this, another origin of this phrase is traced to the Roman poet Perseus (ADC 58), who said – 'Meet the disease on the way'. Thomas also reportedly wrote to Adams, a Church of England clergyman and an English writer, in 1630 – 'Prevention is much better than cure as it prolongs the labor of the sick.'

Short Story
A small boy lived in a small town in India. The boy was very cheerful and obedient but he often disobeyed the rules. It so happened that once a very dangerous virus engulfed millions of people around the world. Doctors advised people to keep distance from each other, do not come in contact with each other and wear face masks whenever they go out of the house.
As always, the child did not accept this inhuman condition and even after being asked by his parents, he did not wear a mask and played with his friends without maintaining social distancing. One day, the cousin of one of his friends who had recently returned from Delhi also came to play with them. After a few days, both his friend and his cousin did not come to play. On enquiry, it was found that both of them had fever and the doctor took them somewhere.
After two days, this child also got fever and he too was taken to the doctor. On testing, he was also found to be suffering from the same dangerous virus. Actually it happened in such a way that his friend's cousin boy who had come from Delhi was infected by it and because of that other kids also got infected. The boy had to stay alone in the isolation ward of the hospital for the next two weeks, where even his parents were not allowed to visit. Fortunately, he recovered well and while going back to his home he was thinking – 'Prevention is better than cure'.
Short Story
Ram and Shyam were roommates living in a college hostel. They were good friends and used to participate in extra-curricular activities together. When the monsoon arrived, his college organized an adventure trip to a nearby mountain river. Both were very excited but there was something that was worrying them.
Since it was the rainy season and his room was on the ground floor of the hostel, it was common for rainwater to seep into the walls and through the doors. Due to this, their copies and books have been damaged earlier also. Rama was very careful, before going on the journey, he had put all his books in a friend's room on the top floor. However Shyam was careless and thought nothing would happen and left his books as they were. When they went on the journey, it started raining heavily and they enjoyed it very much.
